The production process of sunflower oil mainly includes two methods: pressing and extraction.

Pressing Method:

This is a physical method where oil is squeezed out of the oilseeds by external force without using chemical solvents, thus avoiding the residue of organic solvents in the oil. The process mainly includes cleaning, shelling and kernel-shell separation, rolling, steaming and frying, pressing, and filtering.

Extraction Method:

This method uses the principle of oil dissolving in solvents to extract sunflower oil from sunflower seed cakes. The process involves pre-treating the sunflower seeds, pre-pressing to obtain crude sunflower oil and crude oil cakes. The crude oil cakes, which contain about 15% oil, are then subjected to extraction to reduce the oil content to a lower range.

Regardless of the method used, the crude oil obtained needs further processing such as filtering, deodorizing, decolorizing, deacidifying, and refining to obtain clear, pure, high-quality sunflower oil.
